WHAT IS THE PARENT - CHILD MOTHER GOOSE PROGRAM (P-CMGP)?
The Parent - Child Mother Goose Program is a group experience for parents/caregivers and children focusing on the pleasure and power of using rhymes, songs and stories together. Our program is designed to enhance the parent - child relationship and develop skills in young children leading to language development.
The program is presented in various settings throughout the Shuswap, but the general format remains the same. The P-CMGP runs one day per week for a 10-week session. Each session will include orally presented rhymes, songs, stories, a nutritious snack time and a weekly question to brainstorm parenting ideas and to get to know the other participants.

WHAT HAPPENS AT THE PARENT - CHILD MOTHER GOOSE PROGRAM?
Please remember this layout may vary slightly from the program you attend. Each week parents/caregivers meet for one hour with two fully trained P-CMG facilitators. The atmosphere is relaxed and the teaching is directed at the adults. Everyone sits in a circle and children are encouraged to participate, but they may play or nap.
All of the rhymes, songs and stories presented can be incorporated to suit various age groups, so we are able to accommodate all of our families. Printed versions of the rhymes, songs and stories are supplied only at the end of the 10-week session.
- The beginning of the hour is focused on movement with bouncing and tickle rhymes, as well as songs.
- Next, the facilitators present a short oral story to the group.
- There is a nutritious snack time and coffee for the adults. This is a great time to socialize and get to know other parents in your community.
- Finally, the remaining portion of the class is aimed at keeping the children engaged with stand-up action rhymes to 'shake our sillies out'.
